They're exploiting the fanbase's autistic need to always have the 'best' version of any given character, when they release a new version of any given character every other year. They can't just make a figure anymore, it's always got to be a callback, homage, or remake of the same fucking cast of characters.And fans always buy them.
It's like when a movie studio releases a new version of your favorite movie over and over, except this time it's remastered, this time it has behind-the-scenes, this time it's the 20th anniversary, etc.
