Okay, arms normal mean that it's on the default, out-of-the-box position of assembly; arms reversed means they are switched around; same goes for normal inner shaft and reversed inner shaft.
As you can see, the best altmode has the worst robot mode and the best robot mode has the worst alt mode. Also, I didn't put the forearms on inner shaft/arms reversed but you can see the silhouette of the slot where it's inserted.
