>>8619592Well, for one thing, silk is expensive. Ranging from $8~$80 a yard. And even then, it's hard to find in brick & mortar stores. You've got to go to a fabric specialty store for it. And then there's the "ethics" problem of silk coming from slaughtered caterpillars. Thanks China. Finally, I take it that you're a novice at this, so like the gunpla generals say, "You're gonna fuck it up on your first try." So yeah, don't use silk.
So as a novice, you're looking for something that's:
>Cheap so you don't feel bad about fucking it up.>Non-slipping, sturdy material.>Thin material with small patterns that'll look good doll size.I would start with using old T-shirts. They're diverse, plentiful, thin, and can be had for nothing if you raid the right thrift stores. Test your few sewing projects with shirts to get a feel for working on a small scale. (It's surprisingly harder than working in RL scale.) Next, if you want to go a bit more fancy, then try working with the fat quarters sold at Wal-Mart and craft stores. They're cheap, plenty of patterns, and the polycotton blend is very easy to work with for beginners. Good material to make those summer dresses that Shinkis & FAGs look good in.
Like I said, you're gonna fuck up your first attempt, but don't get discouraged. Have fun, anon!
