The fact that when you google BJD, one of the first things to come up is an extremely generically named BJD storefront that sells most of the popular lines, a well intentioned beginner probably wont know any better. Like, look at what happened with NexJen or whatever her name was.
Then, there’s culture. To my understanding, Russia in particular has a culture that is widely accepting of knockoffs so fake BJD’s are pretty openly accepted there. Compare that to, say, Korea, where there is a mixture of respect and status for brand names, so people are more willing to put their money forward to have luxury items.
Then, yes, there is a subsection of people who think that they are entitled to the artists dolls because, iunno, what’s the current popular justification? Free market (not how it works), competitive (not how it works), copyright isnt real (fuck you), I’m poor and disabled (fuck you), yada yada yada.
Basically, the first is unfortunate SEO, the second is unfortunate(ly the results of capitalism from both sides) and the third is just that people are sometimes cunts or stupid or both.
