Even in the phone game, he went from front and center in the GI Joe side of promotional art to removed.
An anon in a much older thread (when we thought this was the art style for the toyline) assumed he was there early on to entice Asian players who are a bigger chunk of the phone game freemium demographic, and honestly, that's probably the case.
Presumably they removed him because Snake Eyes is going to be Asian now and they don't need two token Asians, the same way they only need one Black guy named heavy duty roadblock.
