>Buy an N scale Thomas and a decoder as my first attempt to do a non-drop-in Decoder install since I figure $80 for Thomas and $20 for the decoder won't be much of a financial loss if I fuck up>After sanding down the frame a bit, soldering wires, and finagling with the wires/decoder enough to get the loco shell to fit I get it workingFuck yeah!
>Took the shell off so many times with my sweaty fingers that I rubbed the decals on the sides off>Need to buy a new one from Bachmann for like $45Fuck no!
Went well other than that though. If I can manage to fit a decoder that's about the size of a dime into an engine that's barely an inch long, I think I can do anything else going forward.
>>10645689DC still has its place in the model railroading world. If you're just doing something simple on a 4x8 and don't plan on running more than one engine at a time you don't NEED DCC on your layout. Yeah the sounds are fun to mess around with but so long as people run trains on their carpets around trees each year there's still a market for plain old DC setups.
