It's about the price. Nerf's competitors all try to position themselves as the "value" brand, so they shave corners here and there to bring their product a couple of bucks in under Nerf's pricing. Of course, this perpetuates the common perception that non-Nerf brands are "lesser than" and not just "different than."
Don't sleep on Dart Zone. Their BallistixOps blasters are delivering Rival performance at unbeatable prices. Even Buzz Bee and X-Shot have been stepping up their design game as of late. Meanwhile, Nerf has been shoving repaint after repaint out the door and giving us shit like the Delta Trooper (which honestly looks like an off-brand design).
