Been in this hobby since 2006. Here's some pointers...
Stay the hell away from UltraSabers, Saberforge [unless it's an empty], and DXsabers.
Korbanth, Vader's Vault, KR Sabers, and pachstore are good places to shop. Bear in mind, if you want a fully loaded lightsaber with smooth swing, neopixel blade, and a nice design it'll probably be $500+.
Pictured is my Vader's Vault Vanquish, fully loaded, custom powdercoat scheme. Had to sell it to cover engine work on my car, unfortunately.

FX-Sabers.com and the forum is also a good place, if not as active.
