Then again, I did kind of crib the general idea of the layout from an old MRR issue from the 80s but a lot of personal tweaks were made here and there (ie: The top level was a terminus with lots of industries and a work camp, whereas I'm going with a loop with a station supporting a rural town).
Loop layouts are fine when starting out, and fiddle yard/switching layouts are good if you want to do a small layout focused primarily on operations, but a continuously-running layout with lots of operation potential is the best of both worlds.
