Pic is -sorta- related, the robot damashii line ver anime figures have gone from stylized to ALMOST straight out of their show, same for transformers masterpiece and many other lines, does this bother you?
Of course some lines steer themselves away for whatever reason, like the star wars black series (specifically figures based on star wars rebels, that'd be hard to imitate wouldn't it?) or play arts kai, marvel legends funkpops etc and there is nothing wrong with that, be it budgets or just the line being a playground for designers.
But really, as a whole, should the figures be slaves to their source of fiction for better and for worse, would they be better off being stylized to be recognizable but cooler than the source material (or least to one's preference) or would we all be better off having a good middle ground, like a cleaned up design but not violently messed with
