So that probably tracking literal imports and not officially domestically distributed products.
These charts actually track domestic sales and the Japanese one splits it off, so the market is much much larger than the chart you showed, if this is just for anime/manga related products and not ALL Japanese nerd products like the statista chart shows.
So the drop off in sales is likely just because Japanese goods have been officially made available in the US, and the market hasn't actually shrunk...........................but who knows on this last bit, as i can't find a good tracker for recent years, but the overseas thing would point toward the increase in sales in the US.. probably.
