>>9630393You don't 'chip' like you see woodworkers do with a chisel and hammer. You scrape. So you just put down some guide tape, and then draw the tool along the tape to remove material. You don't need to push that hard, you just repeat the motion multiple times to get deeper grooves.
The engravers with a hook work exactly the same way, you just hold them so the hook is facing down towards the plastic. Its a bit easier to follow the part's shape with a hook when its not flat I think but it doesn't really matter. If you sharpen your tools, I have no idea how you'd sharpen a hook vs the chisel.
Just imagine dragging a tiny screwdriver along a piece of tape. That's all it is, but chisels are sharp / shaped right and made of hard steel that won't get blunt easily so you don't need to apply a lot of pressure and the channel you carve isn't all bumpy and fucked up.
