In general, I just build what I like, and use the groupbuilds as ways to force myself to finish a kit with a deadline, and hopefully pick up a skill with each build. I appreciate seeing what you would like at least.
Shading - I actually hate shading. I might try it at some point, but it just looks distracting to me and takes away from the design of the MS/mecha.
Edge highlights - I want to try doing this at some point in the future. Maybe on my next build.
Weathering - Sometimes I like it, sometimes I just want a "factory fresh" build.
Candy coating - I want to start building car models soon, so I might try this on something. I sort of think it looks out of place on most MS besides Kampfer, Sazabi, Sinanju, and maybe a few others. Still, might try it on an EG at some point.
Either way, thanks for at least commenting anon. I'm primarily an /M poster, and they seemed way more interested in some nerd's bedroom.
