So the delivery of my Harrier appears to be a matter of "go outside, throw it at some migratory bird, hope it brings it along as it goes north in a month or three", so I went stash-dredging for something to do in the meantime, and came up with Academy's 1/72 (kinda) TBF-1 Avenger. 1987 tooling, which in turn is supposedly just a recessed panel lines ripoff of Frog's 1973 tooling. (But the alternative is an oldish Hasegawa kit which costs an arm and a leg, so screw it.) Much to the surprise of absolutely no-one, detailing of the cockpit is spartan to say the least. There simply isn't an instrument panel for one thing. Exterior detailing seems somewhat reasonable though. Some flash and such, but not too bad, and some dry fitting suggests the fit is acceptable. The navigator's windows are on the hilarious side though, thick as bloody hell and with massive sink marks right in the middle. They'll be replaced with some Kristal Klear. Kit comes with a second seat in the cockpit, which had apparently been tossed out in favour of some more radios on US aircraft, so I'll leave that seat out at least.
