Green boots BMR arrived today. I like the shoebox style packaging, but I might not be keeping mine since target slapped a big ol sticker on the front of it. Thanks target.
I was going to get Kira from the first wave, but green boots here is a superior East Asian doll in pretty much every way.
I love her face, the thick eyebrows and large glossy lips are very distinctive compared to a lot of other Barbies, though the grainy/dotty paint is awful and should not be on a collector doll. The hair is thinly rooted and uneven at the bottom, but at least it’s saran and not polypropylene.
Her jacket is a nicely-constructed piece but it’s way too baggy. I know it’s supposed to be part of the “streetwear aesthetic” of this line but she’s practically swimming in it, and she’s already a tall doll.
This is my favorite out of both BMR1959 waves, but these dolls are not collector-quality and absolutely not worth $30. These are worth $20, maybe $25 at most.
Mattel shills will try to defend the company’s cost cutting bullshit with “these are children’s playthings, these aren’t meant for nitpicky adults”. But this line literally is, there’s no excuse for Mattel to pull the same shit they do with playline yet charge twice as much.
