So I just watched the LOL Winter Disco movie and I was pleasantly surprised and entertained.
The stop-motion was well done, and the starring girls were actually pretty funny/charming. The aesthetics of the different outfits and scenes were pretty hip, and I thought the overall look of the movie was cool.
The use of the chat bubbles for the dolls instead of voice actors was kind of annoying, if this was meant for young kids, I have no idea how they expected them to keep up with or understand those. I know they probably did it because of those clues in the actual toys, but it was sort of hard to follow even as an adult, I definitely needed the translations.
And halfway through the movie, the stop motion quits and goes CGI, but the 3D animation didn't really add anything except eye movements, otherwise they're still moving like the dolls, so I didn't really understand why they did that. I REALLY wish they had kept with stop motion though, they never went back to it, which was disappointing, and I'm sure it was just for money purposes.
Something that LOL really has down is their aesthetics, the set design, costume design, it was all really great and comprehensive, even in the live action segments you could tell it had that LOL style. I wish I liked the dolls more, I definitely understand why they're so popular, but I just can't get into them.
The movie wasn't GREAT, but for a toy commercial, it's not that bad. I wouldn't call it a movie, it seems more well-suited for youtube rather than a streaming service.
