If your part is nice and smooth out of the box and you didn't fuck it up by nub removal, you can wash it and spray metallic lacquer on it as is, no primer, no black base (see pic related).
Use relatively low pressure (10-12psi), be gentle on the trigger and practice, practice, practice.
