This basically corrects for whatever kind of lighting you're shooting under (fluorescent, incandescent, daylight, etc) and corrects your colors so you can avoid overly yellowish or bluish tones. If your camera doesn't have this setting, you can also correct this in Photoshop (or similar image editors). You can try auto color (shift-ctrl-B), which sometimes fixes the problem by itself, or correct the colors manually (shift-B then play with the sliders). Photoshop CS2 is free now if you don't have it yet, just register an account on
Adobe.com and go to downloads. They supply you with a serial number and everything.
As for framing, I mostly just meant you don't want tangents. You can google "tangents in photography" to learn more about this. For example, in your most recent photo the way Rei's finger is just touching the edge of the chair back would be a tangent. It takes a while to be able to spot stuff like this so don't worry too much for now!
To get the impression of her actually being in the room, I would probably get in even closer. I cropped your photo to simulate this. You can also print or cut out a tiny poster and put it on the wall behind her, this accomplishes a few things at the same time:
1. It tells you where the wall is so it doesn't look like an infinite white void back there
2. It further suggests that she's in a tiny room, and
3. The edges of the poster will converge in perspective so that we have a sense of where we are in this room
I shittily Photoshopped one in here, but you get the idea. Anyway, again, I like your photo, it's really cute.
