>>11051778Unit composition is all about army management and cohesion; Boudicca's rabble at Watling Street, though heavily outnumbering the Roman legions sent against them were plainly outfought by disciplined infantry units and that's just one example of many. Of course translating all this to army men is more for fun than anything unless you're going into proper wargaming with them.
>a unit is effectively destroyed if it falls below fifty percent.Gameplay mechanics require those kinds of arbitrary parameters but real life has considerably more variation in both ends - some units have famously fought down to a fraction to their nominal strength, others have broken and run at the mere sight of the enemy. Depending on what kind of play I'm up to with my troops, I may or may not give consideration to the official unit composition. The Green assault on the Grey fortified line largely ignores unit composition but this also fits well with the arc - all units available to be thrown at the line on short notice with little consideration for deployment by unit, which can be argued was a significant factor in the assault's failure to take the line.
