I usually use only tamiya stuff, both spray and for brushing.
Please keep in mind that gunmetal will look slightly different depending on the color below it.
I once tried it on a tan piece, and it came out...crappy. like a shiny tan lol.
So be advised!
Also, oddly enough, having different blacks as base, and then doing a matte finish, will still leave the gloss parts look less matte than the others.
For the wood, it was a completely random experiment with dry brushing, and l was surprised how well it came out.
I basically used brown, some sand color and black, working with a few layers of dry brushing.
Experiment a little, it should be fairly easy!
