battle planet did some things with the card game that were good:
the rectangular metal cards are now hexagons. meaning you can get a lot more creative with your card placement. and I'd still argue that card placement, and field navigation are the more important parts of the game
the game now has more emphasis on modifier cards, and now bakucores (the replacement for gate cards) have effects that go beyond switching point totals between figures or whatever
but it also makes the card less manageable. i know this is a nitpick, but now you need a ton of them, and you cant really stack them like a deck of cards - you'd end up with a tower, which i guess you could wrap a rubber band around? more effectively you could just drop them in a ziplock bag, and risk damage. but now the cards are all generic- and lack any sort of cool art. so maybe thats not of convcern
so far they havent brought back the excessive extra bits like battle gear and traps. as cool as they were as toys, they made actually playing the game a total mess. and more often than not i just ended up forgoing them. i'd rather the budget be put into making cooler bakugan themselves
while the game may sound more complicated than the original, it isn't by much.
the art is retained on the character cards. (and the things that replaced ability cards, but i forget their name)
i think there's more opportunity for strategic play, both in card placement, but also selection.
the original generally had a best choice for card. there wasn't much strategy other than picking the one with the highest number for your bonus, and lowest for your opponent. battle planet cores however, have some actually interesting effects to think about.
