First, not to frivolously spend money. Second, not to spend money you don't have. Unless a great deal pops up, I always sit on a decision for hundreds of dollars for a good week and decide if it's still worth it to me.
The good news is that you'll likely be able to easily resell what you've purchased on ebay or the classifieds as it's a popular toy.
Bigger mistakes happen all the time. For example, just recently I overheated my work truck and I'm footing a $2000 bill for an engine rebuild because I was overtired and negligent. What matters is how you grow and move forward from experiences and setbacks.
