You'll notice how well 30$ marvel figures did, with venom, red hulk. war machine, and thanos. Those releases really helped convince target to add more shelf space. They all sold out almost instantly
If lightning collection monsters sold as well as ML then the brand wouldn't be canceled.
Also you should count how many exclusives target/Walmart get. Every ML series gets some kind of exclusive. Transformers got 7 Walmart exclusives. That means stores are begging for more product.
Exclusives pretty much are non existant with PR which meant target and Walmart were unwilling to take a risk, but loved taking a risk with transformers.
Finally fans absolutely killed power rangers by being picky about the monster scale. There's no way Hasbro would've canceled if fans just bought them. They were better quality than any other series deluxe, and its a shame people could've gotten rito and bulk and skull if they just bought pumpkin rapper. We were even likely to get SPD villains and expand in space. Maybe a zeo villain.
The lesson is don't be picky if you like a line
