People are really all over the place with symptoms and causes for this. People are blaming the screws or the plastic swirls for it but it's really just an issue of thin, weak plastic being used on one of the biggest stress areas for a fairly heavy figure. I'll probably agree with over tightened screws not helping but I don't think the plastic swirls directly indicating an inevitable fracture has any truth to it considering the crack on mine doesn't even line up remotely with the "grain" of the plastic.
I think all you can really do is be gentle with the figure, and maybe loosen the screws very slightly to reduce stress on the plastic and the amount of force required to slide it around. I don't think I'd bother trying to lube the joints or anything since the hip ratchets aren't uncomfortably powerful or anything. I already had a look at taking it apart and it seems like there's pretty much no way to open the crotch part or even replace it since it's locked in by another pinned part. If you wanted to disassemble the problem part you'd take the entire crotch and like half the torso with it.
