I found that it's good to purge some old/unwanted items that you don't really feel fit in your collection anymore.
If you don't want to throw them away or resort to goodwill, you can donate them to your local police station and they give it to kids who need to spend time in the station. I feel like that's a more wholesome end to their journey as a plush than just trashing them.
Storage also helps. Crates, shelves, whatever.
