Rodimus Prime leads the ship the Lost Light (just taking the name it has very little to do with MTMTE) on a mission after the Allspark is stolen from Cybertron. In the first episode (a 2 or 3 parter) the Allspark is accidentally destroyed, and the fragments are spread all over the galaxy. Space adventures and wacky hijinks occur between the Autobots and 'Cons, each trying to assemble the Allspark.
The biggest change from a standard continuity is that the technorganic Maximals and Predacons just exist at the same time as normal bots. Decepticons are all pretty much either defeated or reintegrated into society, so the ones who steal the Allspark are the Predacons: Beast Megatron, Waspinator, Dinobot (but not for long), Injector, Drill Bit, and probably a few former Decepticons reformatted.
The idea at the beginning is that the political situation on Cybertron and diplomatic relations with other worlds are really important, and getting the Allspark back was seen as really easy, so that's an excuse to have the Autobot cast consist of a lot of literal whos.
Rodimus is the leader and has the obvious star power for the Autobots. In addition we'd have Rad, a damaged Transformer who can't Transform, but is intent on proving himself, Lightspeed, a young, intelligent Autobot who always dreamed of traveling in space, but has never left Cybertron before, and Deftwing, a cunning Autobot strategist who served in the war and has much more experience than the others.
For the Maximals, we'd have Rattrap as the star power character, a wisecracking friend of Rodimus. In addition: Wolfang, a literal lone wolf who seems to have only signed up due to a personal vendetta against the Predacons, Onyx Primal, a young Maximal who thinks he is much cooler than he actually is, and Torca, a mighty Maximal of few words.
The Autobots and Maximals are joined by Starscream: he has claimed to be reformed, but is still considered untrustworthy.
