Have you seen chubbybot and messymaru (pic related)'s MOCs? Chubbybot has a lot of videos on frames you can make, plating, etc. Messymary sells instructions for his reFrame v3 which is prety robust.
Almost every modern frame I've seen uses the mixel joints in some way, but there are some older designs using the pneumatic t pins for joints.
Pixel_me_crazy also has some good stuff. I tend to like the more Japanese styled mecha.
