The flash that I have is way more powerful than the cheap continuous lights that I use through an even cheaper diffuser umbrella. Also, the flash is smaller and more flexible in the angle in which I want to direct the light, I find.
I don't use it much, if at all because I'm used to my continuous light set up, but experimenting with it for practice, I can see the options that it opens up for me if I need it in the future.
