all I can do is guess. guesses include:
- kids like animals
- sneak sports team characters without paying royalties
- "Mom Animals" (where the mom always gets specific animal deco)
- similarly, people in general pick animals to be fans of
- Lego artist showboating appreciation (they look cool! let's make them!)
- I hate to toss this out there but... Fetish? (designer pushes their mascot costume fetish into production)
- (probably others, I'm too lazy and nobody cares to read this anyway)
the only official answer we're likely to hear is "kids like them, so..." they will never admit to anything else
