The leading theory is that the original design (i.e. the one you see on Cobalt Dragoon's box, could be just be the angle but I've seen a few people swear it's a different shape) was a bit *too* strong and unburstable, so they ended up making the points more pronounced, the only issue there is the fact that because of their size the slightest change could be the difference between being broken in the good way and broken in the bad way.
As for even-sided ratchets, we've yet to see 6 or 8 so it might not be that kind of trend, but if I were to guess it's since they're even numbers which would realistically give the beys more balance due to symmetry, so they made the tradeoff more boxy protrusions. The only issue with that is that burstability is so much more important than the few extra seconds a well-balanced ratchet would get you, so they end up far worse than intended.
