Mold and sculpt quality hasn't changed for like 30 years... aside from using different sculptors, who may or may not have gotten better (and most aging artists actually get worse and not because of physical ailments)
BTW, Takara made those VOTOM figures and their bodies got updated versions of the Micromans from the early 00s.
ALSO, I'd like to say that the only thing 1:12 can do better than 1:18 scale is paint. Paint tools do not scale down well, especially for mass market level paint jobs. So even dry brushing can look pretty shit, because their brushes need to be smaller and their technique needs to be more minute.
Factories who are trained for 1:12 figures will fuck up 1:18, and we've seen that happen a lot of times. Even Hot Toys fucked up their 1:18 lines and only fixed this problem by their last line (pic).
