>>5705430>2001>Internet was a new concept and was still unknown to a lot of people>Lego put out all the stops with Bionicle because they were literally on the verge of bankruptcy>No smartphones, hell come to think of it no cellphones either>Kids had to get their Bionicle fix via official comics, Lego magazine, TV ads, and flash games/animations>Bionicle had that awesome robotic/tribal/mysterious atmosphere that got pretty dark and heavy at times>2016>Internet has made life so much easier since everyone uses it in their daily lives>Lego is the largest toy company in the world so they don't have to gamble on things as much>Literally everyone and their grandma has a smartphone>Kids are too busy with social media and video games to care as much about toys anymore>Bionicle has more of a mystical atmosphere and generally plays it safeCan you really blame anyone? The early 2000's were so innocent compared to the shitstorm that is the modern day, although that's probably because we were all kids back then and didn't have to worry about adult problems.
Pic related, I don't know a single kid whose balls weren't blown off by something as simple as a basic HTML webpage. Hell, most of the adults probably felt the same way as well.
