Is there a psychological reason adults "can't" play with toys?

Basically, I am wondering why at a certain age, people (specifically teenagers or adults) no longer play with toys. I am not counting taking an old action figure off the shelf and make one or two noises and putting it back. I am talking about getting an item, moving or manipulating it with imagination for close to 3 minutes. See, I wonder this because people usually play video games or board games as adult, but it is frowned upon "playing with toys" (No, I am not trying to be like "we live in a society".) when they are essentially the same thing; manipulating an item or object (real or digital) to accomplish a desired goal for personal enjoyment.
