After the discussion on the Hordika sets in the last thread or two, I was able to come across a bulk lot that included them all and was intrigued enough to get it since sets from 2005-2006 are voids in my collection.
Only Nuju and Nokama are 100% complete but the rest are complete enough that Im still able to get a feel for the Hordika as a whole.
They really are just disappointing, not bad but they had the potential to be so much more.
Completely Identical builds save for the head/mask and weapons, assymetrical with the one gear function arm which I could see selling them as being mid-transformation into their beast form.
Function arm is really weird in that sometimes it goes floppy and others it can hold its pose, worse than the Mata function imo since its kinda awkward using the function isolated all in the one arm.
The function arm should have been replaced with a beast arm in order to sell the beastlike/Hordika form. If they commited to basing each toa off a specific beast then all the beast arms would be different to help show that(e.g. Nokama a razor sharp fin, Whenua a built-up burrowing claw etc.)
One anon said the Hordika may have been based off beasts but I really don't see it in any respect, other than Nuju's telescopic eye I don't really see many references to their Metru masks either.
Only thing that helps give off any sense of the mutated form is the rhotuka spinner and curved legs giving them a hunchback stance.
I maintain that the Hordika would've been better off coming out as a slightly toned down version of the Barraki.
They both are considered to be mutated, yet one was in the confines of aquatic creatures/predators and came out the better for it.
