The depth thing seems totally true, though a friend told me that my photos would look better if you were able to see all the details in the photo, but now looking at other photos, the blury-background thing seems like a better choice for photos like this.
And no, i'm actually taking these with quite a good reflex camera, but i still have to learn. i don't have a macro lens yet though.
