They're melee weapons used in most games they appear in. They're also in their original toy's artwork, and packed with the toys themselves. Just because they weren't used in the glorified toy commercial you hold so highly on a pedestal, doesn't mean they aren't a thing - on the contrary, the cartoon is the ONLY piece of media the swords don's show up in. Of course, I don't really give a shit about media appearances in general - I just want my toys to have all of the accessories they were intended to come with, and the Dinobots all had swords in their initial releases. Seems dumber NOT to include them.
