They're not taking inflation into account
And you're ignoring the fact that the world is far smaller now, which allows for properties to be quickly marketed in way more countries than was possible in the past. Nevermind difference in population and the fact most companies weren't that heavily into licensing the shit out of something popular. We only saw merch sales becoming popular thanks to Star Wars and the first merch was released a year after it came out in theaters (vs 1-2 months before the movie comes out today)
pic is Looney Tunes making nearly half a billion dollars in a single year: 1978. It likely wasn't even the height of the franchise, considering the cartoons were mostly produced before the 70s. And maybe the height of Looney Toons happened in the 90s, when WB opened up over a hundred WB stores in malls across America. Plus Six Flags didn't start usijng the Looney Tunes for their parks until the 80s.
>Did I say otherwise? Seemed to be the insinuation by bringing up adults.
BTW, Cowboy Bebop and early Ghost in the Shell was only aimed at JApanese audiences. They were created before westerm licensing/distribution really took off. Oshii and Watanabe are just westaboos
