Since it's acrylic, thin the paint with either water or the paint brand's thinner until the paint has a milky consistency. Then, paint thin layers perpendicularly to the previous layer. This helps to minimize brush strokes in the paint. You can paint the next layer as soon as the previous layer is dry (should only be a few minutes). You can store paint in an air tight container and it should last a while.
As for what to do with the pieces as they are drying- pic related. Attach pieces to bamboo skewers with alligator clips (or sticky tack in my case since I had some lying around)
