It's definitely not 1/12 but this Star Wars Black Series AT-ST ended up being the mech to serve my needs. It's not easy to get to stand stable but I like that I can still fit a shorter figma through the walker's hatch semi-convincingly.
I really want to do a picture of it advancing in a battle line with supporting infantry.

The doo-dad and the yellow strip are the same sort of mini lamp I bought at a Big Lots. They're nice since they can be moved around easily when I'm lighting up a shot. I didn't do a good job hiding them in that picture.
If you've got a hand to DIY some light I'd recommend lighting your shelf up with an LED Strip. The kind you can snip and fit wherever you need it with some soldering to have a nice permanent solution.
I originally used the mini lamps in that picture to make up for the missing lighting in some of my dollhouses' rooms but they kept on falling down and just eating batteries - making me switch to just putting small wired lamps instead.
