The F15 is still used today because we really don't need to make something new. Same with the Abrams and Hornet. They get updated and upgraded, but it's mostly the same (Super Hornet is actually about 1/4th bigger than the F18), because we're not fighting any major country that can actually fight back.
Considering that in the new trilogy, they're fighting ACTIVE battles, and supposedly creating new things, they're not fucking North Korea.
