Double check your box to see if you got that small arm(it's an L shape)
Personally though, working with the actual SAS base and arm works better since the double holes allows you to adjust the way the speech bubble displays with the characters and for easy height adjustment. Much easier to display them in different fashioned than the default arm you get.
It's even better if you can get your hands on the WF 3-hole bases which allows for more creative setups. Mandarake lists them and I remember a big bag of those things at one point with other speech plates.
