Don’t get me wrong, I love him and he’s got an ideal look, but there’s not too many key things that stick to a specific version of him; essentially just an embroidered leather tunic with shorts and a whip. What you have here is a pretty solid start, he’s just plain in the upper torso and he’s missing his shorts. Really your BEST bet would be to get the neca Simon and swap all the parts so he’s highly articulated but that’s also not exactly cost effective seeing as he’s $200 at the moment and would be a pain in the ass.
Honestly, your best bet is to just find anybody that vaguely suits what you’re looking for in price and detail. Take a Gimli or Aragorn from LOTR; either toybiz or diamond select, and just swap the torso.
When it comes to intricate characters like Simon I think the best bet is to always get the feeling and tone of a character over details. Even if it’s not very accurate, so long as the character radiates the energy of what you’re making you should be good to go. Like my Nosferatu Zodd here ain’t accurate really; but he’s got a bunch of key characteristics. Rope belt, shaggy long loincloth, spikey hair, fucked nose, black and red eyes, etc. He isn’t really accurate to any adaptation of him but he fills in the gap because he fills the tone what the character needs to be. It also makes him my interpretation, and feels more special that way. And what’s great is I can always add if I want to; maybe add the teeth he has to make him better, a new or bigger head, etc. You’ll always wanna make little tweaks, but for now he does what I want and looks good in person (or ant least better) and that’s what’s important.
You’ve got a great base, just look for any mildly medieval detailed piece of cloth torso that’s brown with highlights and you’re golden. Can’t wait to see an update.
