Variants are a good idea too. You probably need to habe some variants in your head when designing the sets.
And we all know color variant are a hit ans miss. It kinda works for Transformers where they give you a new character. While you know thats the old character, you still like to have a green Starfighter or a toxic red frog.
If you get just a different color Skeletor thats just for hardcore fans.
There are some color variants from bundle sets. But i believe thats more like they didnt had the original plastic color around.
The best variant they did waswith the Ice Alien and Fire Alien!
