Pretty ambitious for a first aircraft, but I have a feeling you've built other stuff before. And yes, canopies can be a bit temperamental at times. Looks mostly like it's the fit that was a bit so-so here, but the big thing otherwise is probably people supergluing them in place and getting them frosted on the inside form the fumes.
