and conventional wisdom is that toys looking more like a real gun leads to more kids being shot (usually by cops)(in burgerland at least),
and more kids being shot leads to more suits against the company and/or further legislation passed limiting what toys they are allowed to make and/or worse public perception of their brand.
You can customize your blaster, but you can be damn sure Hasbro is going to make sure any subsequent consequences are exclusively on you when you do it.
