>>10034712It's kind of funny how no other toyline has been "replaced" so much in the fandom despite mattering so much. Alternators released when the fans felt Armada was dumbing things down to terrible levels, and was the first real "here's G1, back and better than ever" the fandom ever saw, just as Dreamwave was hitting too. The toys were complicated, detailed, and made to go alongside the then mindblowing release of Masterpiece Optimus Prime.
In the end, though, they got supplanted when the line finally tapered off, just in time for Classics to come in and steal everyone's hearts. Having a toyline of G1 but back again that wasn't forced to be "all cars" or "alt mode accuracy no matter the cost" probably helped, and the final bullet to them came when the MP line reset its scale and that line branched out to more characters than just the the big leader guys.
