This puts down thin, successive layers of paint and is a good way to get gradual colors and raised surface highlights.
A lot of the dry brushing tutorials you'll find are aimed at model makers and they tend to use much less paint on their brush because they only want very faint or subtle effects. For sofubi you'll usually want more paint on your brush. Dry brush is really good for highlights and a lot of the older painters use it. James Groman for example uses a lot more dry brushing than air brushing.
I also painted the eyes black, since the flakes I used to give the eyes their "jeweled" appearance need a black background.
