McFarlane himself is pretty loose on shit like that, especially since he borrows so heavily when creating his own characters.
Since McFarlane did work with Nightow, there's no doubt he got the idea from their collaborations. Pic came out around the time McFarlane was going super articulated and i doubt Mcfarlane wouldn't give Nightow a tour. McFarlane loves to show off his shit to anyone who cares.
McFarlane was one of the first toy companies (maybe the first) who was super transparent in the creation process for toys and had no qualms in revealing how much shit actually cost. Only other behind the scenes i saw before then just came from individual sculptors.
