So I just got this set today and built it. I must say it must be one of the best sets LEGO has ever released.
I'm trying to be objective here - I've never had it when I was young - but honestly it has too much going for it.
-Steering mechanism
-Removable cockpit (that has an awesome bubble canopy) and lab assembly that form a ship when combined.
-Removable lab has internal storage space, can fit a figure and looks great with see-through canopy.
-Front suspension
-Flatbed on the back so you can set up figures or transport stuff
The set also uses very simple bricks and plates for most of its construction so compared to more specialized modern sets upgrading it is easy. Two upgrades I managed to do were:
-Added rear suspension
-Added another docking module so the cockpit can now take the place of the mobile lab and sit on top of the whole build.
With all that and two figures to boot I feel this set was an absolute must-have in its day for only 25 USD.
Adjusted for inflation that's 45 USD today - and I feel that compared to for example - LEGO City Mars Research Shuttle 60226 (40 USD) it offers much more.
Am I wrong? Are modern sets just as good but I just can't see it?
What's your favorite set - the one you feel almost has it all?
