So I decided to take a change and ordered the Elphaba and Glinda set from Mattel since I had a $20 credit, so I was able to get the set for about $35 each doll. They arrived today.
Elphaba is gorgeous. Her gown is on par with the Disney Store Live Action dolls except without the horrible bulimia jaw. Great detail on it, fits wonderfully, don't have much to say because I'm super satisfied with her. The only downside is the plastic broom and hat... c'mon, Mattel, c'mon. I'll be giving her the DS Wicked Witch hat and a miniature broom with bristles.
Now... Glinda. Glinda, Glinda, Glinda. Mattel didn't just drop the ball here, they popped it to make sure you can't inflate it again without a ton of duct tape. I had to take her out of the box because her hair had gone completely sideways over her shoulder during shipping. They had it in a little mesh cap in an attempt to protect the curls but the way that the doll is boxed just meant they got smashed up against the box, rendering them a mess. The curls on her forehead were shockingly perfect, as in "I don't even want to touch them and mess them up" perfect, but the back of the hair is a mess. There's really no way to fix it without deboxing the doll and curling it yourself.
Glinda's gown is... TECHNICALLY.. made with material that looks similar to the American tour version of the gown so I can't really complain. The problem is that it's so thin that the petals dont lay quite like they should. They look painfully thin. No petticoat, except the very top of the skirt has a crinoline lining for a tiny amount of poof. They should have used miniature sequins glued on instead of the sparkles. The base dress itself is not too shabby but for some reason instead of using the thick bodice they used for Elphaba to give it a nice fit, they just went "meh! one piece!"
I knew I'd have to fix Glinda so I'm not really stunned by her shittiness, just disappointed. Especially since Elphaba is great.
